My philosophy of teaching has been developed throughout my formative years of teaching. As I reflect upon my values and beliefs of teaching, I find that I follow three main principles: to foster an attitude of lifelong learning, to promote a welcoming learning environment for all learners, and to challenge learners to strive to their potential. In order to implement this positive and productive environment, I provide a student-centered atmosphere. Students are the focal point of all the decisions I make.

I decided early on that Education was the field of study I wanted to major in as an undergraduate at Indiana University, Bloomington. I completed my degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Reading. Following graduation I taught 5th grade for 6 years. As a matter of fact, the elementary school I was teaching was the elementary same school I attended as student!

My love for teaching has grown every year. I have a love for learning and bettering my teaching craft. To continue my background studies, I received my master’s degree as a Reading Specialist from Northeastern Illinois, Chicago.  Currently, I am a 5th-Grade Teacher at Roosevelt Middle School in River Forest, IL. I teach Reading, Writing, and Language Arts.

I am aware that in order to strengthen my teaching craft I must strive to implement new strategies and technology to enhance my instruction. Teaching is ever evolving, and I must stay abreast on the changes for the betterment of my students. I look forward to the many new things I will learn in my teaching journey. I will always continue to model my own teaching philosophy: lifelong learning.
